The Gürtel has a concentration of small venues, including Chelsea, B72 and Venster99. Elsewhere, Escape Metalcorner and Battle Axe focus on rock and metal, while Arena Wien, Flex and the larger halls programme concerts across several styles.

05History: Former Venues and Locations
These are former locations, not places to visit for a gig today. Where a name continues at a new site, the current venue appears above.
Original Arena site
The 1976 occupation took place at the Auslandsschlachthof in St. Marx. That site was demolished; the current Arena is at the neighbouring former Inlandsschlachthof on Baumgasse. History source.
Rockhaus / Planet Music in Brigittenau
The former club on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße is a historical location. Planet Music moved its operation to the Gasometer in 2008 after the old lease ended. History source.
Original Chelsea
Chelsea’s original Piaristengasse 1 location closed in September 1994. The Gürtel venue opened on 8 June 1995. History source.

Start with the kind of evening you want. Battle Axe and Addicted to Rock Bar & Burger are bar options; Escape Metalcorner also has concerts. For a particular band, use the official programmes of the concert venues above. DIY spaces such as Pankahyttn and EKH also need an event check before you set out.
Check ticket availability, age restrictions, opening times and access information with the venue. This guide does not assume that a bar is open every evening or that an event has free admission. Use the address listed for the event, especially at sites with several rooms.
