01Introduction
Hamburg has dedicated rock pubs, small punk and metal rooms, and larger concert venues with mixed programmes. Start with the kind of evening you want: a drink with music, a DJ night or a ticketed gig. Those are different experiences, even when they share an address.
St. Pauli has the largest cluster in this guide. Altona, Harburg and Billstedt also have venues worth checking, and a show outside the centre can be the reason for the trip. The sections below give visitor addresses and links to programmes.
Check the event and the address
This guide was researched online on 28 September 2026. It includes 34 current venues, including four broader music and DJ bars, followed by a separate section for closed or displaced venues. Programmes and locations can change: check the official event page before travelling.
02St. Pauli: Concerts and Club Nights

06History: Closed and Displaced Venues
The following venues are not current night-out recommendations. Some are former club identities; Astra Stube and Waagenbau have lost their old rooms and have no verified reopened venue here.
Star-Club
Former address: Große Freiheit 39, Hamburg · St. Pauli
Star-Club was a rock venue on Große Freiheit that closed at the end of 1969. It is a historical address, not a current place to see a band.
Top Ten Club
Former address: Reeperbahn 136, 20359 Hamburg · St. Pauli
The former Top Ten Club premises at Reeperbahn 136 now house Molotow. The historical club name should not be mistaken for a separate current venue.
Onkel Pö
Former address: Lehmweg 44, Hamburg · Hoheluft-Ost
Onkel Pö was a jazz and rock venue at Lehmweg 44. It closed at the end of 1985 and belongs to Hamburg’s music history, not its current nightlife.
Astra Stube
No current visitor address verified · Former Sternbrücke / Altona-Nord
Astra Stube lost its Sternbrücke premises at the turn of 2023–24. September 2026 reporting describes it as still without a venue while its operators work towards a return.
Waagenbau
No current visitor address verified · Former Sternbrücke / Altona-Nord
Waagenbau’s former Sternbrücke premises closed at the turn of 2023–24. A hoped-for new venue is not a confirmed reopening; do not plan a visit to the old address.
07Planning Your Night
Choose a show, then plan the route
For rock or metal, compare the programmes at LOGO, Markthalle, Knust, Bambi galore and Marias Ballroom. For punk and alternative shows, also check Hafenklang, Molotow and BETTY. Each books other styles too, so read the individual bill.
Use the visitor address above and the venue’s own directions. Several operators have more than one room: Nochtspeicher and Nochtwache, Große Freiheit 36 and Kaiserkeller, and Hafenklang and Goldener Salon all require attention to the room name. Gruenspan is currently at Lagerstraße 11, Halle D.
For travel, use the hvv journey planner for the outward and return journey. Check late services on your chosen date rather than assuming a particular night timetable.
Tickets, access and opening times
Check the event page for door time, admission, age restrictions and ticket availability. A bar’s opening hours and a concert’s entry time are not the same thing. Ask the venue directly about step-free access, seating or other requirements before booking.
For a flexible pub evening, compare the current announcements at Night Light, Jolly Roger, Komet and ZWICK St. Pauli. Avoid building a route around assumed opening times or a promise that every stop has live music.
