Osaka has rock bars built around recorded music, bars where customers can play instruments, and live houses with dated concert programmes. This guide brings together 20 current venues, separating those formats so you can choose a drink with music, a punk bill or a metal show. The entries cover Osaka city; neighbouring cities are not treated as Osaka addresses.
Several of the live houses are in Nishi-Shinsaibashi and Amerikamura. Higashi-Shinsaibashi has listening bars including FREAK, STARLESS and GUITAR-RA, while the northern group includes MiDiAN, Banana Hall and HARDRAIN. Fireloop and Sengoku Daitouryou add options in the Teradacho and Midoribashi areas. Addresses and building floors are included because the name of a neighbourhood is not enough to identify the entrance.

MiDiAN

MiDiAN is a rock, gothic and heavy metal bar in Doyamacho. Its own description puts the music alongside a red and black interior and skull decorations. It welcomes music requests and music brought by customers, and uses a screen for videos. This is a place to consider when you want recorded rock and metal with a drink, rather than choosing a concert bill.
The bar publishes individual opening notices on its website, including September 2026 updates. It also organises the SATAN festival: its announcement for January 2027 names Banana Hall as the concert venue. Keep those two addresses separate when planning a visit to the bar or a festival show.
ROCKROCK
1-8-1 Nishi-Shinsaibashi, Chuo-ku, Atrium Building 3F, Osaka
ROCKROCK is a rock music bar in Amerikamura, on the third floor of the Atrium Building. The official website carries announcements for DJ events and themed music nights. Its venue account also posts individual opening updates, which are more useful for planning a particular evening than treating the older website news archive as a weekly timetable.
One recent example was an August 2026 B’z music night advertised by the bar. Follow the official account linked from the website for current notices and the music focus of particular evenings.

80’s Rock Bar FREAK

FREAK concentrates on the 1980s, with Japanese and international heavy metal, hard rock, glam, progressive rock and pop in its published music policy. Its official LINE profile says requests and customer-brought music are welcome. It also explicitly says the bar has neither karaoke nor instruments, a useful distinction from places built around customer performances.
The address is on the fourth floor of the Nippo New Columbus Building. GUITAR-RA lists the fifth floor of the same building, so keep the floor with the street number. FREAK’s official LINE page provides contact details, and its own social account publishes opening notices.

Rock Bar STARLESS

STARLESS puts progressive rock at the centre of a broader selection of music from the 1960s to the 1980s. Its official concept page also mentions blues and jazz, and says requests and customers’ own CDs are welcome. The website’s illustrated examples include King Crimson, Pink Floyd and Yes, which help explain the stated focus without implying that every track will come from those bands.
This is a listening bar with a counter, on the fourth floor of the Nippo Silky Tower. Its official information archive includes a 2026 Golden Week opening notice, and is the place to check for changes to its usual schedule.

RockBar GUITAR-RA

GUITAR-RA describes itself as a rock bar where people can talk over drinks, watch older videos and look through guitar magazines. The owner’s published interests include hard rock and heavy metal. That description makes it a relevant choice for someone looking for a guitar-oriented bar rather than a scheduled live-house performance.
The official site lists the fifth floor of the Nippo New Columbus Building and carries a May 2026 update. FREAK occupies a different floor in the same building; the shared street address does not mean they are the same bar.
Rock Bar SEVENTH
2-14-10 Sonezaki, Kita-ku, Umeda Royal Building 3F, room 301, Osaka
SEVENTH combines a rock bar with facilities for customers to play music. Its official site lists guitars, bass, drums and keyboards, and describes sessions, live performances and karaoke. The music policy extends from rock, hard rock and metal to blues and jazz. Choose it with that participatory format in mind; it offers a different kind of evening from a bar that only plays recordings.
The website’s older news items are supplemented by dated musician reports, including an August 2026 performance at the bar. For the location, use the official access page: it gives 2-14-10 Sonezaki, Umeda Royal Building, third floor, room 301. Check the event or session arrangements directly before bringing an instrument.
03Shinsaibashi and Amerikamura: Live Music
HOKAGE

HOKAGE’s current programme includes hardcore, screamo, metal and noise, with genre descriptions attached to individual events. The September 2026 calendar includes the Italian band Raein, while later listings continue into heavier and experimental styles. For a visitor interested in this part of the live scene, those specific bills are a useful starting point.
The venue lists two basement floors in the Kasadomart Building. SINKAGURA is also in that building, but on the fifth floor, with its own programme. Keep the room and venue name from your chosen event with the address.
KING COBRA
2-11-3 Nishi-Shinsaibashi, Chuo-ku, Chateau Date 1F west, Osaka
KING COBRA is a live venue to check for punk shows in Amerikamura. Its October 2026 listings include events named PUNK IS ATTITUDE and PUNK ROCK SPECIAL, alongside a GELUGUGU appearance. Those bills establish a current reason to consider it for a punk night, rather than relying on the venue’s reputation or an old travel listing.
The address needs particular attention: the official site announces a move in September 2025, and its access page now gives 2-11-3 Nishi-Shinsaibashi, on the west side of the first floor of Chateau Date. Use that current access page when navigating. An older listing with a different building is not a reliable guide to the present entrance.

Pangea

Pangea is a live house in Amerikamura with a programme of band shows. The current calendar carries late September and early October 2026 dates, including Niko and AutoCode. Its own description presents a place for both newer and established performers, so use the individual line-up to decide whether a particular bill matches your interests.
The venue is on the first floor of the Shinsaibashi West 363 Building. It is also the sister venue of ANIMA, which has a separate address and calendar. Pangea’s website provides an access page alongside the current programme.
ANIMA
2-10-21 Nishi-Shinsaibashi, Chuo-ku, Spazio Building B1F, Osaka
ANIMA is Pangea’s sister live house, in the basement of the Spazio Building. Its calendar includes rock bands within a broader programme, rather than a single style every night. Listings available during this check include a December 2026 bill with AIRFLIP, FOUR GET ME A NOTS, See You Smile and SWANKY DANK.
The same calendar contains other kinds of performances. Read the complete listing for your chosen date, including its ticket information. Although the two venues are related, an ANIMA event takes place at its own address rather than at Pangea.

BRONZE

BRONZE is an Amerikamura live house with a programme of band bills and release events. Its September 2026 schedule includes THE DISASTER POINTS with ANGER FLARES, as well as a THE SKIPPERS headline show. These are specific listings to explore if you are comparing live venues for a rock or punk night. Each event has its own performers and arrangements.
The official address is the east side of the first floor of the Minamisumiya-cho Building at 2-11-7 Nishi-Shinsaibashi. Its monthly schedule distinguishes the performers, ticket links and arrangements for each event, with a separate contact page for general venue enquiries.

SINKAGURA (新神楽)

SINKAGURA, written 新神楽, is a fifth-floor live house in Amerikamura. Its official September 2026 page lists band events including 3SET-BOB’s tour and an AcroBox release-tour final, as well as OSAKA RING CIRCUIT. The schedule is the place to establish who is playing and whether an event involves more than one venue.
Its street address matches HOKAGE’s because both are in the Kasadomart Building, but SINKAGURA is upstairs rather than in the basement. Keep the Japanese name and fifth-floor detail with your booking information, especially when a circuit poster lists several venues.

CLAPPER

CLAPPER describes itself as a live house and club working across a wide range of genres. Its September 2026 programme includes THE STAR CLUB with STRONG STYLE on a bill explicitly presented as a punk tour. Other dates feature different styles and formats, so choose the event as well as the venue. The monthly calendar makes those differences visible before you book.
The official history records a September 2022 move from Amerikamura to Higashi-Shinsaibashi. Its present address is in the basement of the Ron Scall Takayoshi Building at 1-12-17 Higashi-Shinsaibashi. Use that location when following an older recommendation that still calls it Amerikamura CLAPPER.
04Minamihorie and Namba
SOCORE FACTORY
2-13-26 Minamihorie, Nishi-ku, Osaka
SOCORE FACTORY’s programme includes metal and noise alongside electronic music and other events. Listings checked for this guide include Humiliation in October 2026 and an Osaka Metal Onslaught event in December. The latter explicitly names thrash, death, black metal and grind, giving metal listeners a concrete event to investigate.
The venue is in Minamihorie, with its access page giving 2-13-26 as the visitor address. The calendar combines heavier shows with other styles, so select a specific bill. Individual event pages supply the performers, while the access page carries the location and general contact information.
Namba Mele
1-2-2 Motomachi, Naniwa-ku, Inoue Namba Building B1F, Osaka
Namba Mele is a basement live venue in Motomachi. Its current programme includes rock bills such as October 2026’s Let It Rock, with THE STRUMMERS and THE DISASTER POINTS, and a Road to Shimane Jett Fes event. Those named shows give a visitor more to work with than a general description of the area’s nightlife.
The website gives the building as Inoue Namba Building and also notes its former name, which can help reconcile older address listings. Follow the current programme for performers and booking details. Namba Mele should not be confused with the closed Namba Rockets discussed below: their names both contain Namba, but they are not interchangeable venue names or addresses.
05Umeda, Doyamacho and Toganocho
Banana Hall
1-21 Doyamacho, Kita-ku, Monte Building B1F, Osaka
Banana Hall is a current live hall in Doyamacho. Its official website carries a 2026 programme and gives the Monte Building basement as its location. Use this current location and programme when planning a concert.
The programme is broader than metal alone. For a specific heavy-music connection, MiDiAN’s official announcement places SATAN festival XX at Banana Hall in January 2027. That concert takes place at the hall rather than at MiDiAN’s bar, so keep the event venue and organiser separate when checking the address.

Umeda Shangri-La
1-1-14 Oyodominami, Kita-ku, Osaka
Umeda Shangri-La is a live house in Oyodominami with a calendar of band performances. Its September 2026 listings include cali≠gari and The Bloody Weekend. Use those individual event pages to judge the music and ticket arrangements, rather than assuming the whole programme follows a single rock subgenre.
The official access page gives 1-1-14 Oyodominami as the venue address, distinct from the Doyamacho venues in this section. The website provides monthly calendar pages and a general email contact for questions about the venue.
HARDRAIN
3-19 Toganocho, Kita-ku, B1F, Osaka
HARDRAIN is a basement live house in Toganocho. Its own description emphasises live performances across different genres, and the September 2026 programme includes bills with Death By Dumpling, BLONDnewHALF and THE FAX. Read the line-up for the date you plan to attend rather than treating this as a bar with a fixed recorded-music selection.
The venue publishes practical information that is worth checking before arrival: admission and drink payments are cash only, and it has no cloakroom or lockers. Those are HARDRAIN’s stated arrangements, not a rule for every Osaka venue. Its about page also directs enquiries to email because it is not currently handling questions by telephone.
06Teradacho and Midoribashi
Fireloop
4-10-17 Daido, Tennoji-ku, Arai Building B1F, Osaka
Fireloop is a live house in the Teradacho area, with a programme of band shows and separately labelled bar events. Its September 2026 listings include AMANOJAKU and a late-month event titled Punks Love BEST 2026. The distinction between a band bill and a bar event is useful when deciding what sort of evening you want.
The official address is the basement of the Arai Building at 4-10-17 Daido, in Tennoji-ku. Each calendar entry gives the event’s performers or format, allowing you to distinguish a live bill from a bar night before travelling.
Sengoku Daitouryou
1-11-14 Nakamoto, Higashinari-ku, Gare Midoribashi B1F, unit 100, Osaka
Sengoku Daitouryou is a basement live venue at Midoribashi. Its October 2026 programme includes REDSNEAKERS, BLOND new HALF and THE AZTEC OVERDRIVE on separate bills, alongside an explicitly labelled acoustic night. It is another calendar to investigate if you want to look beyond the venues around Shinsaibashi and Umeda, with the choice of date determining the music.
The access page gives the Gare Midoribashi basement, unit 100, and identifies exit 2 at Midoribashi station. Use that venue access information rather than the unrelated company address in the website footer.

Read the event terms separately from the venue description
The September listings at BRONZE and CLAPPER distinguish doors from performance times, and several events state a separate drink requirement alongside admission. Read the entry for your chosen event, including any reservation link. A past price or arrangement on the same calendar is not a reliable quotation for another show.

Keep the building and floor with the address
HOKAGE and SINKAGURA share a street address but use different floors. The same is true of FREAK and GUITAR-RA. KING COBRA’s official access page reflects its 2025 move, while CLAPPER records its move to Higashi- Shinsaibashi in 2022. Save the current venue access link with your event details rather than relying on an older neighbourhood description.
Check payment and luggage arrangements
HARDRAIN explicitly says it takes cash for admission and drinks and has no cloakroom or lockers. Check those arrangements with any other venue you choose; the same policy should not be assumed everywhere. If you need step- free access or space for luggage, ask the venue directly before booking. The floor numbers in this guide do not establish accessibility.
Separate listening from playing
FREAK and STARLESS both publish music-request policies. FREAK specifically says it has no instruments or karaoke, whereas SEVENTH lists instruments and customer sessions. Decide whether you want to listen or participate, then check the venue’s own arrangements. None of those descriptions establishes the programme, admission conditions or opening time for every future night.
08Closed Venues and Osaka Music History
Former venues, not current destinations
Namba Bears
Former address: 3-14-5 Nanbanaka, Naniwa-ku, Shin Nihon Namba Building B1F, Osaka.
The Nanbanaka location closed in July 2026. A notice on the official website, signed by manager Yamamoto Seiichi, says the building’s demolition required closure on 31 July. The site also retains the final July programme. The notice expresses a wish to reopen elsewhere, but no replacement address was verified for this guide. Older address and recruitment text on the website should not be read as confirmation that the former venue is open.

Namba Rockets
Former address: 2-11-1 Nanbanaka, Naniwa-ku, Namba Pia 6025, Osaka.
Namba Rockets opened in 1991 and announced its closure in February 2016. Lmaga’s contemporary account includes interviews with its former manager and the booking manager who followed him, describing a venue used for both live bands and club events. The former official website no longer provides useful venue information; the historical address is also recorded in the event organiser’s own access instructions. This is a historical entry, separate from the current Namba Mele listing above.

Where can I listen to hard rock or metal without choosing a gig?
MiDiAN and FREAK explicitly include heavy metal in their music descriptions. ROCKROCK publishes rock music and themed nights, while STARLESS gives progressive rock particular attention. These are starting points for a listening-bar evening; check their current opening notices before setting out.
Which calendars should I check for punk and heavier shows?
Start with HOKAGE, KING COBRA, BRONZE, CLAPPER and SOCORE FACTORY. Their checked programmes include heavier bands or explicitly named punk and metal events. Compare the actual performers and dates: a venue that hosts a metal show one evening can have a different programme the next.
Are Banana Hall, Bears and Rockets still open?
Banana Hall publishes a current programme at its Doyamacho address. The former Namba Bears location closed in July 2026, and Namba Rockets announced closure in 2016. Bears and Rockets are included only in the history section, not as places to visit for a current show.
Does this guide cover Sakai or the rest of Kansai?
