Often overshadowed by Mudd Club and CBGB, Tier 3 (TR3) was critical for No Wave and post-punk. Founded by Hilary Jaeger, it was smaller and more intimate, prioritizing musicians over the "scene."
Known for musician-friendly policies—initially gave 100% of door money to bands. Favorite for The Lounge Lizards, DNA, The Slits, The Raincoats, Liquid Liquid. Jean-Michel Basquiat painted a mural in the bar area, Kiki Smith contributed artwork. Upper floors hosted No Wave Cinema screenings. True multimedia space. Closed December 1980.
