ABOUT

The Bridge House was a pub at 23 Barking Road, Canning Town, that landlord Terry Murphy ran as a live music venue from 1975 to 1982. It held about 560 people, put on pub rock, punk, Oi!, mod revival and heavy metal bands, and had its own record label. The building later became a club and then a hotel, and was demolished in 2002 for a road flyover.

SIGNIFICANCE

Iron Maiden played there regularly between June 1976 and February 1979, and Depeche Mode played seven dates there in late 1980; Murphy said Daniel Miller signed them after seeing them on a bill with Fad Gadget. The pub's label released the live album Live: A Week at the Bridge E16 and the 1979 compilation Mods Mayday.

The Bridge House TODAY

Demolished in 2002 for a new road flyover at Canning Town; a separate venue called the Bridge House 2 opened a few hundred yards away in 2008.
