A celebrated showcase club in Greenwich Village on the NYU campus. The Bottom Line became known for its high-quality sound and for hosting legendary performances, especially by singer-songwriters and rock acts on the rise. Seating ~400, it had a cabaret-style table setup.
In the '70s and '80s, The Bottom Line was the spot for intimate, career-defining concerts. Bruce Springsteen famously played 10 shows in 1975 here on the eve of Born to Run. Lou Reed's 1978 live album Take No Prisoners was recorded here. Harry Chapin, James Taylor, Carly Simon, Prince, Hall & Oates graced the stage. Known for annual New York Rock and Soul Revue in the '90s (Donald Fagen's project). Many college favorites (like Phish in 1989) played early NYC gigs here. Beloved for acoustics – live albums recorded there went platinum. Known for industry showcases and "In Their Own Words" songwriters circle.
