The Nashville Rooms was the critical link between Pub Rock virtuosity and Punk nihilism. Originally a country music venue, it transitioned to hosting "souped-up R&B" acts like The 101ers.
THE CLASH ORIGIN: On April 3, 1976, the Sex Pistols supported The 101ers (fronted by Joe Strummer). Watching the Pistols' chaotic incompetence and raw power, Strummer famously realized his pub rock sound was obsolete. "I saw the future," he said. This gig directly led to the dissolution of The 101ers and the formation of The Clash. A later Pistols gig descended into a riot involving Vivienne Westwood. Now The Famous Three Kings pub.
