Boston's equivalent to CBGB, operating from 1967-97. Launched The Cars, Pixies, Mission of Burma and many others. Development pressure led to closure; final night 18-Apr-1997. Demolished in 2000 for dorms. "The Rat finally closed in 1997 after 30 years."
