A large hard rock and metal club in North Hollywood. FM Station – originally opened by nightclub impresario "Filthy" McNasty (real name Ed Danky) – was the premier rock venue in the San Fernando Valley during the 1980s and early '90s. It featured a stylish roadhouse vibe, stage with pro lights, and was a key venue for the hair metal era as well as other rock genres.
FM Station became known as a home base for many local hard rock/metal bands. Credited with helping launch the careers of groups like Poison, Warrant, L.A. Guns, Bang Tango, BulletBoys etc., who often played or showcased there in the mid-'80s. Famous for Monday "jam nights" and residency gigs (for example, the all-star cover band Boogie Nights started at FM Station). Had a loyal following of 20-somethings and off-duty rock industry folks – a bit off the beaten path from Sunset Strip, which gave it a more down-to-earth vibe. Had two billiard tables and even a video screen by the stage – "stylish" for the time. Closed with little notice or fanfare in 1997 when owner lost the lease. Building was later demolished.
